tiswas blog:
Monday 1 March
So we have had a great start to our
new Thursday night weekly party at Beauty Bar and we would like to thank you all who have made the trip, especially all those who made the trip during last week's blizzard, and those who have not we hope to see you soon! This Thursday we welcome a special guest DJ, Jamie Burke so we hope to see you then!
Monday 8 February
Well I am not exactly the most prolific blogger
but it is time to announce the new weekly TISWAS party which opens this Thursday 11 February at The Beauty Bar with no cover -- ever! Nick Marc and Spiky Phil will be handling the DJ duties with the occasional special guest DJs. This openning week we will be celebrating the latest release from Hot Chip, One Life Stand and we very much hope to see you there!
We will still be doing TISWAS NYC at Don Hill's on the third Saturday of the month with the next installment on 20 February with a live performance from our friends GOODFINGER, DJs Nick Marc, Spiky Phil and Jess and a PBR open bar from 11-12!
Monday 16 November
We have two events
coming up this week and we hope to see you at both at TISWAS NYC this Saturday 21 November and Thursday 19 November at our new bash THE SHAKE DOWN at Leopard Lounge.
Joining DJs Nick Marc, Spiky Phil and Jess at TISWAS NYC this month we look forward to a live performance by British transplants DELUKA who have earned comparisons to the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, The Kills, Blondie, Ladytron and even the Prodigy, been remixed by The Rapture and featured on Rockstar Games' GTA IV. Their debut Deluka EP was released earlier this year on Brooklyn's Vel Records. Come early to take advantage of a Pabst Blue Ribbon open bar from 11-12 and from our friends at Filter Mag we have giveaways to celebrate the release of new albums from both Wolfmother and The Cribs -- hope to see you all there at what will be the last TISWAS of 2009, we will be back next year!
This Thursday at The Shake Down at The Leopard Lounge Nick and Phil will be laying down the tunes, we have a Snow Patrol release party and a 2 for 1 bar from 11 to 12 and no cover charge!
Tuesday 10 November
I really am not very good at regularly updating this blog -- I will endeavour to do better in the future. This Thursday we will be celebrating Nick Marc's birthday at the opening of our latest party, THE SHAKE DOWN at The Leopard Lounge (248 East 5th Street at 2nd Ave) in the heart of the East Village.
Spiky Phil and Nick Marc will be supplying the tunes, there will be 2 for 1 drinks from 10-11 and there is no cover charge -- hope to see you there!
Saturday 26 September
Thanks to all those who made it out to both TISWAS and the Depeche Mode party cruise last week and thanks
also to Wendy James for guest DJing and to Your Vegas for a great live set.
We hope to see you all next month when we will be welcoming electro posters The Dossier live as well as our old friend and a special guest DJ set from former TISWAS host and DJ Justine D. Hope to see you all there!
Wednesday 16 September
Alright, tomorrow we take our Depeche Mode themed party cruise and we are looking forwrad to spining on if not sea, then at least the Hudson River and I am totally phyched to spin somewhere I never have. Come on by and let us us know what nautically themed tunes we should play!
Do not let Thursday night's shenanigans make you forget TISWAS this Saturday Night when we welcome a special guest DJ in Wendy James from the legendary Transvision Vamp. When I was in my teens I tok part in a Transvision Vamp video shoot -- I don't know if it ever made the cut but I will always remember that night in Notting Hill. Here is taste of the amazing Transvision Vamp.
Performing live we look forward to the TISWAS NYC debut of YOUR VEGAS, Brit transplants with a knack for a tune, we would post a video but for some reason the video cannot be embedded. Check them out on You Tube or just give em a Google. This Saturday we will also be celebrating the release of Muse's latest "The Uprising' along with La Roux'xs self titled debut and ther is also an open PBR bar from11 - 12 so we hope to see you all this Saturday at Don Hill's.
Random shit. Why the opposition to health care, I like the idea of affordable heath care -- I am an independant contractor and my health care is non exisitant coz it is un-affordable. My health plan is a seven hour flight back to the UK where at least I will get treated and not go bankrupt in the process. Personally I find a for profit health care system in this country obscene and I want to see the insurance companies bite the dust. No-one should should go broke because they get sick. I know it is in the title of 'For Whom The Bell's Toll" but why exactly does Roberto has to die -- he has a broken leg and they have spare horses so why not sling him across the back of one them. All I can say it's a Hemingway novel -- there is always at least one death to a main character! I was worried about United for the first few games this season but feeling alot better now. Just want to beat City Sunday -- that would be sweet! My favorite band at this moment in the Black Keys, they played at Rose Bar last Friday and were awesome!
Monday 7 September
Happy Labor Day to everyone out there, we all hope you had a great Summer and that we will be seeing you all this Fall! We will be at Don Hill's Saturday 19 September where we will be joined by YOUR VEGAS live on stage, a Guest DJ appearance from Transvision Vamp's Wendy James, the release party for the latest releases by Muse (The Uplifting) and La Roux's self titled debut and this month we will have a PBR open bar! Looks like it's going to be a good one!
Thursday 17 September we will be spinning our first ever gig on a boat. Yes that's right we will be taking to the sea aboard the Star Of Palm Beach for a joint production with the Depeche Mode NY Fan Club for a party cruise round New York Harbor. We, Nick, Phil and Jess will be hosting one floor spinning usual Tiswas fare and maybe a few nautical themed tunes and on the upper level DJs Shred and Shunt will be spinning all Depeche Mode! Full details in the new coming up section on the front page of this site or buy tickets here!
As some of you may already know, our former home, The Annex is closing and we have been asked to come back for the last night so this coming Saturday 12 September Phil and Nick will be taking to main stage at the Annex for the last goodbye -- should be a mad one! We will post full information in the next couple of days!
Monday 17 August
Thanks to everyone who came down to Tiswas this past Saturday night and danced the night away, to Soft Black for a storming live set, check out their latest album The Earth Is Black and to a great raucous DJ set from Stunners International's Wad Crescent-- we hope you all had as good a time as we did!
We hope to see you all next month on Saturday 19 September!
Friday 3 July
So I stop watching the news because it seems
that because Michael Jackson died and nothing else has happened in the world. The whole thing is very sad I agree, he was a sad individual with undenialable talent, but enough already. North Korea are chucking missiles wherever they may land, the Iranian regime are brutaly suppressing any sort of protest against the obvioously rigged elections, US troops are on the offensive in Afghanistan, Sarah Palin has resigned as Governer of Alaska, the Governer from South Carolina ran away to Argentina to see his mistress and came home acting so crazy only Palin could make him seem sane, US troops have retreated from Iraqi cities, there's a coup in Honduras and if our politicians
actually have the balls to stand up to the special interests there may be a chance at progress on health care and global warming but you would not know if you watched US media coz Michael Jackson died!
What's going on, clubs, gigs, art & more...
